BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The No. 24 Coastal Georgia softball team (19-5, 4-1) secured their second Sun Conference series win after taking down Warner (8-18, 1-7) by scores of 10-2 (5 innings) and 2-0.
Hayley Dickerson and
Bryce Peacock did what they normally do and pitched gems with Dickerson improving to 10-3 and Peacock to 6-1 and allowing just two runs over both games.
Peacock struck out 12 batters in game two, tying Dickerson's record for most in a game.
MacKenzie Kagee hit her fifth homer of the season in the second inning of the game and is now tied for second on the team and in the conference with
Kayla Rowell.
GAME 1:
- The Mariners jumped all over the Royals in game one.
- Warner's pitcher got in a jam early, loading the bases and McCall Maret's plate discipline allowed the first run to score as she drew a walk.
- Aniston Johnson followed that up with an RBI single and then thanks to a wild pitch the next at-bat, the Mariners got one more across to make it 3-0.
- Rori Rhodes came up to bat with the bases loaded and drilled a double to left field to clear the bags and increase the Mariners lead to 6-0 after the first inning.
- Kagee hit a missile to left field in the second inning before the Royals answered with a homer of their own to cut the Mariners lead to 7-2.
- The final three runs for the Mariners came in the third inning after B. Peacock drove in her sister Malarie Peacock and Rhodes which was followed by a Kagee RBI single to give Coastal the 10-2 lead and eventual win.
- Dickerson pitched all five innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four.
GAME 2:
- Game two was a lot more of pitching struggle than the first.
- B. Peacock knocked in the first run of the game on a double to center field that scored Sarah Thinger who doubled the prior at-bat.
- Maret drove in the second and final run for the Mariners in the fifth inning with a single to right field that also scored Thinger.
- B. Peacock was in full control throughout the game.
- She got in some trouble in the second inning after hitting batter before a couple of wild pitches moved her to third with one out. However, she locked in and struck out the next two batters to strand the runner at third.
