Mariners Complete Comeback to start 2-0

MILLIGAN, Tenn.- After falling behind 0-2 after looking uncomfortable early on, the Mariners (2-0) stormed back to a 3-2 victory over Georgetown College (Ky.) on Friday night.

Raevyn Russell build off her impressive game one with an equally impressive second game, recording 15 kills and eight digs while hitting .229. Paula Perez Rosales made her presence felt as well, recording nine kills, two blocks and two aces.

Sydney Martin, Cassidy Casey, Elena Gkiourda and Chantiya Johnson all recorded five kills while Delaney Wilson got her first action as a Mariner, recording a kill and a team-high four blocks.

Sara Hansen and Rebecca Brown combined for 33 assists and 11 digs as they facilitated the offense while Julia Neveu held down the back line with 14 digs.

How It Happened:

The Tigers (0-2) seemed to have magnets on the court as they hit an impressive .458 in set one and .400 in set two while holding Coastal Georgia to hitting percentages of .133 and .000. Georgetown was dominant at the start as they did not fall behind once in the first two sets, making the match destined for a sweep before the Mariners jumped out to a 7-2 run in the third set.

Coastal Georgia capitalized on mistakes from Georgetown but those mistakes didn't last long as the Tigers came back to take the lead 9-8.

The Mariners were able to answer back with an 8-3 run - which was highlighted by four kills of the swings of Perez Rosales, Gkiourda and Casey - on the their way to a set win.

Another 7-2 opening run set the tone in the fourth set as the Mariners went on to win 25-17 and force a fifth and final set.

The fifth set was a back-and-forth affair as the their were six ties and three lead changes before the Mariners closed out the game on a 6-0 run to secure the comeback victory.

UP NEXT: The Mariners will face No. 12 Taylor University tomorrow at 12 p.m. before playing (RV) Blue Mountain University at 2:30 p.m. to close out the Milligan Mountain Madness Tournament.
