Mariners Host Lady Barons for Midweek Tilt

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Looking to head into the Thanksgiving holiday on the right foot, the College of Coastal Georgia women's basketball team will play host to the Brewton-Parker Lady Barons on Tuesday afternoon looking to break a three game skid.

The Mariners (4-4, 0-3 SUN) have not won since November 14 when they defeated Wesleyan, and have dropped their three Sun Conference games so far this season. The Lady Barons (5-3, 1-0 SSAC) wrap up their pre-Thanksgiving schedule in Brunswick on Tuesday after a 5-3 start to their season, including a home victory over the Mariners back on November 4.

Last time out, it was a 70-59 loss to the Ave Maria Gyrenes for the Mariners on Saturday afternoon. While improving their shooting splits and shooting their best three point percentage of the season, CCGA could not get timely stops and dropped their third straight contest.

Morgon Webb and Tyler Butler continue to lead the offense as Webb is coming off a new season high 20 point performance against the Gyrenes. The senior from Knoxville, Tenn. is now averaging 13.3 PPG on 35 percent shooting, while Butler follows with 12.6 points of her own while adding 7.8 rebounds per contest.

As a team, CCGA is shooting just 35 percent from the field and 23 percent from three, leaving much to be desired from the field. Defensively, CCGA started the season as one of the best in the country, but is now giving up 55 points per game and has given up 70 or more points in three straight games.

The Lady Barons come in after two straight victories over Spartanburg Methodist last week with their last loss against an NAIA school coming back on November 9 against Campbellsville. Destanee Wright continues to be a force for the Lady Barons offense, averaging 14.8 PPG and grabbing six rebounds per contest. Chastity Degale, Angel McRae, and Tia Floyd all average in double figures as well.

It was a 59-45 victory for the Lady Barons the last time these two teams met in Mount Vernon, Ga. Wright scored a game high 20 points for the Lady Barons while Webb led the Marienrs with 19.

Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Howard Coffin Gymnasium.
