The College of Coastal Georgia women's basketball team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating New College of Florida 76-46.
Alli Stone led the Mariners with a stellar 20-point performance, going 5-for-7 from the field and a perfect 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Stone was efficient throughout, scoring in every quarter and providing steady leadership on both ends of the floor.
Abby Shepard added 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting, including three three-pointers, while Hadiya Kennerly contributed 10 points and added four assists. The trio combined for 43 of the team's 76 points in the balanced offensive effort.
The Mariners jumped out to a fast start, taking a 17-5 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. Coastal Georgia's defense was suffocating in the opening period, holding New College to just 1-for-8 shooting from the field.
The second quarter saw more of the same as the Mariners extended their lead to 36-16 at halftime. Coastal Georgia scored 19 points in the period while forcing numerous turnovers that led to transition opportunities.
The Mariners maintained their comfortable advantage through the third quarter, leading 52-32 heading into the final period. Stone continued to attack the basket and get to the free throw line, while the defense remained locked in.
Coastal Georgia put the game away in the fourth quarter, outscoring New College 24-14 to set the final margin at 30 points. The Mariners' largest lead came late in the quarter at 30 points.
Niya Moon provided a spark off the bench with nine points, going 3-for-9 from the field including 1-for-6 from three-point range. Amanda Roach added seven points and three assists, while Paris Miller contributed solid minutes with three assists despite scoring just two points.
The Mariners dominated the turnover battle, forcing 30 New College turnovers and converting them into 38 points. Coastal Georgia also held a slight rebounding edge at 28-30 and assisted on 14 of their 24 field goals, showcasing excellent ball movement.
The bench contributed 21 points for the Mariners, with multiple players stepping up and making an impact. Iesha Rhodin hit a three-pointer and added two steals, while Hannah Golden connected from beyond the arc as well.
CiCi Moore led New College with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Camila Zbynski and Tatiana Jackson each added nine points. The visitors shot 39.5 percent from the field but struggled to take care of the basketball and couldn't overcome the early deficit.
Coastal Georgia improves to 17-7 overall and 7-6 in conference play with the victory, continuing to build momentum as they head deeper into the season.
