BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Following an 0-2 start on the road, the College of Coastal Georgia men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Coffin Gymnasium where they will host the Middle Georgia State Knights on Wednesday night for their 2024-25 home opener.
The Mariners (0-2) are coming off a 72-58 loss to the Florida College Falcons on Monday night. It was a tough night shooting the basketball for CCGA as they shot just 35 percent from the field and 11 percent from the three point line, going just 2-19. The Mariners actually won the turnover battle 15-10, and both teams scored 11 points off turnovers, but the Falcons shot 41 percent from the field and almost 30 percent from three to pull away in the final three minutes of the game.
Kaden AcArthur leads the Mariners offense early in the season, averaging 14.5 PPG through two games, still shooting the ball at 50 percent from the field and 30 percent from three. Salle Wilson follows slightly behind at 10 PPG while also averaging 4.5 RPG and 3.5 APG. As a team, the Mariners are shooting 37 percent from the field to begin the season but are struggling from deep shooting just 22 percent.
The Knights (2-1) won their first two contests of the season before dropping their contest with New College of Florida on Saturday by a final of 80-71. Nick Cham, who scored 13 against the Mariners the first go round, leads the Knights offense scoring 15.7 points per game adding a pair of assists per game as well. Last time out, Cham scored 20 points against NCF, adding three rebounds and two assists. Milique Smith and Trashawn Wilson both average in the double figures for MGSU as well.
