Mariners Host Gyrenes on Senior Day

Kelsey Leedle to be Honored Post Game

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - The College of Coastal Georgia women's basketball team will look to end their 2023-24 season on a strong note as they host the Ave Maria Gyrenes on their home floor on Saturday afternoon.

The Mariners (7-18, 1-12 TSC) come in following a one point loss to the Warner Royals on Wednesday night after giving up a late field goal with just two seconds remaining. The Mariners did prove, however, that they have the talent to play with anyone in the conference, scoring 27 points in the third quarter while holding Warner to just 10. Iesha Rhodin led the way in Wednesday's loss scoring 18, as the sophomore is averaging 6.6 points per game this season. Sonia Forney continues to lead the team in scoring, still averaging in the double figures at 11.8 points per game. Along with Forney, Morgon Webb knows how to turn up the scoring volume come conference play as in just 13 conference games, the junior is averaging 10.3 points per contest. As a team, CCGA is still one of the best rebounding teams in the country, leading the conference in offensive rebounding and ranks second in rebound margin.

For the Gyrenes, (18-9, 9-4 TSC) they come in having a four game win streak snapped on Wednesday, losing to Webber by a final of 76-65. Ave Maria comes in as one of three teams tied at 9-4 in conference play, and will look to wrap up a top three seed in the conference tournament. Maria Kuhlman currently leads the way for the Gyrenes offense, averaging 12.6 points per contest along with six rebounds while shooting it at a 47 percent clip from the field. The Graduate is even better from behind the arc, leading the team in made threes with 67 and shooting it at an impressive 44 percent. Along with Kuhlman, Casey Humphrey also adds in 10 points per game of her own and has been a staple in the starting lineup, missing just one start all season.

The last time these two teams met was back on January 27 in Ave Maria at the Tom Golisano Field House where the Gyrenes got the win by six, 63-57.

Tip off is set for 2 p.m. from Brunswick. Immediately following the game, the College of Coastal Georgia will honor senior Kelsey Leedle.
