Brunswick, Ga- Coastal Georgia softball came out of the gates swinging in their opening day doubleheader against Truett-McConnell University on Friday, February 2nd. The Mariners (2-0) defeated the Bears (0-2) with a final of 8-2 in the first game and 10-5 in the second game. With those two wins, Coastal Georgia moves to 11-6 in their games against Truett-McConnell.

Mackenzie Southerland had an impressive freshman debut. She finished the game with a homerun, 3 runs batted in, and 3 putouts.
Game 1: The Mariners took the field ready to go, bringing in 5 runs in the first inning led by
Emma Jones with a 2 RBI single to middle field. The Bears held the Mariners scoreless for the next 4 innings before giving up 3 more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Of those 3 runs, 2 came off of a homerun by the freshman
Mackenzie Southerland. The other came from an RBI single by
Rylee Mills. The senior
Bryce Peacock opened the season in the circle for the Mariners. She pitched a full 7 innings giving up only 2 runs on 6 hits. She also contributed 7 strikeouts while only committing 1 error. With that win, Bryce opens up 1-0 on the season.
Game 2: The Mariners and the Bears took the field 30 minutes later for game 2 of their doubleheader. With a single hit also first of the game,
Sarah Thinger tied her former teammate
Melani Jones for the most hits in Coastal Georgia Softball history. Through the first 2 innings, Coastal Georgia put 6 runs on the board. In the 2nd inning,
Rylee Mills contributed with a 3 RBI double. The Bears got their first run on the board via an RBI on a fielder's choice in the top of the 3rd. Over the next 4 innings, the Mariners added 4 more runs. Of those, 3 came via RBI doubles and one off an RBI single. They also gave up 4 runs within that span. In the circle,
Rylee Mills opened for her first appearance of the season. She opens up at 1-0, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits. She also put up 3 strikeouts while giving up 3 errors. In this game, the Mariners used a total of 3 pitchers.
Jordyn Krieg came in the top of the 7th where she gave up 2 runs on 3 hits before we seen
Elizabeth McGovern come in and close out the game.
