Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The College of Coastal Georgia women's tennis team defended their home courts on Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Georgetown Tigers by a final of 7-0.
"What can you say other than great job today by the women," said head coach
Zack Rogers. "7-0 is always the goal, but it's not that easy to do. We played great in doubles winning 6-0 at lines 1&2. The solid play carried over into singles with the ladies taking all six lines. I was super proud of Sofia and Lisa today, they picked up big wins at line 2 and 6. Great day for the team and we are looking forward to carrying this momentum into conference play."
The (RV) Mariners (2-3) had everything working for them from the beginning, as five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets, and out of three doubles matches, CCGA allowed just two points to the Tigers.
Laetitia Grand and
Chloe Do Lago held down the No. 1 doubles line, taking care of their opponents 6-0, while
Danielle Silvan and
Azul Malatini posted the same score at the No. 2 doubles line.
Ana Gonzalez and
Lisa McKenzie were on the third doubles line, and they finished the point out strong with a 6-2 victory, as the Mariners earned the doubles point.
In singles play, Gonzalez won No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3, while McKenzie scored the same in the No. 2 singles line. Grand won at the third line 6-2, 6-4, and Do Lago won in straight sets, bouncing back from a 7-5 in set one to finish the match 6-0 in set two. Malatini looked strong at No. 5 singles winning both sets 6-1, and Gonzalez finished the singles play strong, winning 6-3, 7-6 (8).
The women will take a much-deserved rest before starting conference play on March 22 as they travel to Ave Maria for their first conference matchup.
