Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Coastal Georgia softball team dropped the rubber match with the Keiser Seahawks, losing Saturday's finale by a final of 5-2.

In a game that seemed like every call went against the Mariners (25-6, 6-3 TSC), CCGA was outhit by just one hit, and committed two less errors in the field, but came up just short in the final innings, losing their first conference series since April of 2023.

The Mariners got hit with bad luck right out of the gates, as Sarah Thinger led the first inning off getting on base with a hit by pitch but was doubled up on a lineout by Bryce Peacock. Elizabeth McGovern made the start in the circle in the finale, and shut down the Seahawks (0-0, 0-0 TSC) in order, sending us to the second with a tie game.

The Mariners got doubled up once again in the second on another hard lineout, this time off the bat from Mackenzie Southerland. Keiser rattled off two hits in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't score, as we went to the third with a 0-0 game.

CCGA finally broke through in the third, striking for a pair. Three straight singles by Julianna Batts, Thinger, and Peacock loaded the bases with nobody out in the inning, and Rylee Mills was hit by a pitch to score the game's first run. One batter later, Rori Rhodes hit a sac fly to score Thinger, sending the Mariners to the bottom of the inning with a 2-0 lead. McGovern once again sat the Seahawks down in order in the bottom half, as the Marinres had all the momentum into the fourth.

The Mariners got a pair of runners on in the fourth on two walks, but stranded the runners setting up a massive inning for the Seahawks. Keiser went on to score five runs in the bottom of the inning on four hits and a controversial call from the official, making the score 5-2 going into the fifth inning.

In the remaining three innings, the Mariners mustered just one hit, and never recaptured the momentum, dropping game three to the Seahawks.

Mills and Rhodes finished with one RBI each, and six of the nine batters in the starting lineup recorded a hit. CCGA left eight runners on base compared to four for the Seahawks.

McGovern went 3.1 innings in the circle, alowing five hits and five earned runs in the losing effort. Peacock relieved McGovern in the fourth, pitching 2.2 innings allowing just two hits and no earned runs.

The Mariners will look to regroup next weekend when they welcome in the Florida Memorial Lions for three games. The series is slated for a double header on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. followed by a single game on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
