OKATIE, S.C. - It was a 10th place finish for the College of Coastal Georgia women's golf team as they fired a third round 311 at the USCB Oldfield Intercollegiate on Tuesday morning.
Round one was a tough one for the Mariners women as they battled strong winds in the early morning to shoot a 331 to kick off the USCB Oldfield Intercollegiate. Madelyn Taylor was the lone Mariner to fire a round in the 70's in round one, finishing with a 79. Elise Forberg finished with an 83, Claire Wickes shot an 84, Laura Kate Kessler finished with an 85, and Carlin Paulk shot an 87 to finish the first round.
The second round was a much better showing for CCGA as they improved their team score by 19 strokes to shoot a 312 in round two to wrap up day one of play. Taylor once again led the Mariners, this time with a 75 in her second round, followed by dueling 78's from Kessler and Forberg. Wickes finished with an 81 in round two, and Paulk wrapped up the day with an 89. After one day of play, the Mariners sat in 10th place with just 18 holes to make a move up the leaderboard on day two.
On the second day, the Mariners improved once again, shooting one stroke better than round two to finish with a 311 and a 10th place finish as a team. The highlight of round three was Forberg who aced hole number seven for her first hole in one of her career. Forberg finished with a 79 on the round and a 37th place finish. Taylor was the low finisher for the Mariners with an 18th place finish after a six over round three while Wickes finished 37th as well after shooting a 75 in round three. Kessler finished round three at 11 over par for a 55th place finish, and Paulk shot a 79 to finish in 74th place.
SCAD-Savannah won the tournament by six strokes over E. Florida State. Carson-Newman, UIndy, and Limestone rounded out the top five.
CCGA returns in two weeks when they travel to Dalton to participate in the Roadrunner Invitational, hosted by Dalton State.
