Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. — The College of Coastal Georgia softball team secured another one run victory at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, defeating Reinhardt University 2-1 on Saturday morning to improve to 12-1 on the season. It was a gritty, low-scoring affair that once again showcased the Mariners' ability to win tight games through strong pitching and timely offense.
Coastal Georgia's pitching staff was dominant from start to finish, holding Reinhardt to just one run across seven innings. The Mariner arms attacked the zone consistently and got the defense working behind them, as CCGA made the routine plays and then some to keep Reinhardt's offense in check throughout the afternoon. Reinhardt managed to scratch across a single run to keep things interesting, but the Mariners never allowed the Bulldogs to build any momentum or string together the kind of rally that would threaten the outcome.
Offensively, Coastal Georgia manufactured their two runs through the kind of aggressive, opportunistic approach that has become their identity through the first weeks of the season. Kaitlyn Carolino was active at the top of the order as she has been all year, and the middle of the lineup came through with the clutch hits needed to provide just enough cushion for the pitching staff to work with. Mackenzie Southerland, Emma Jones, and Rily Andrews all factored into the Mariners' offensive production in a game where every base and every out carried significant weight.
The victory was another example of what has made this Mariner team so difficult to beat through the first month of the season. With a 12-1 record and two hard-fought one-run wins in back-to-back days at the Leadoff Classic, Coastal Georgia has proven it can grind out victories against quality competition when the offense is limited and the margin for error is small. As the tournament continues, the Mariners will look to carry that momentum forward and add to what is already shaping up to be a special early-season run
