Mariners go 1-3 at Lander volleyball tournament

The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team won one of four matches this past weekend at a tournament hosted by Lander University in Greenwood, S.C. The Mariners defeated St. Andrews 3-0 on Friday but lost 3-0 to host Lander. On Saturday, the Mariners lost 3-1 to Armstrong Atlantic and also 3-0 to Francis Marion.

Against St. Andrews, the Mariners won 28-26, 25-15 and 25-20. Holly Hammer led the squad with 12 kills. Al Aplington recorded 20 assists while Maggie Bee returned from a head injury to post 18 assists. Kansas Robison led Coastal Georgia with 15 digs.

Later Friday, the Mariners fell to Lander 17-25, 22-25, 21-25. Hammer and Aplington led the team in defeat with nine and eight kills, respectively. Robison led with 17 digs. Kelsey Brehend was credited with three solo blocks.

On Saturday, Coastal Georgia lost to Armstrong 12-25, 19-25, 29-27, 9-25. Armstrong is ranked No. 16 in NCAA Division II. Amanda Kline posted 10 kills in the loss. Bee led the Mariners with 16 assists and also recorded 10 digs. Robison finished with a match-high 24 digs. Valerie Cutrone had four assited blocks.

Also on Saturday, the Mariners fell to Francis Marion by 19-25, 19-25,17-25. Hammer led the team with nine kills. Bee had a team-best 18 assists.

Now 13-13 on the season, the Mariners visit Vorhees College on Tuesday before hosting Augusta State at 10 a.m. Saturday at Howard Coffin Gym.
