Mariners sweep Brewton-Parker in season series

The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team picked up a much-needed victory Monday night against future conference rival Brewton Parker in Mount Vernon. The Mariners won the match 3-0, taking the three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-19. It was the second victory of the season for Coastal Georgia over the Lady Barons and ended a three-match losing skid.

Brewton Parker is a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference. Starting next season, Coastal Georgia will begin competing within the same conference after getting accepted into National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in September. Tonight, the Mariners, now 15-16, will complete their debut season with a road match at Augusta State. The Lady Jaguars, an NCAA Division II program which competes in the Peach Belt Conference, defeated Coastal Georgia on Oct. 29 in Brunswick.

"We're excited about ASU," said Coastal Georgia coach Jeff Huebner, looking ahead to the Augusta State finale. "We feel good about a ‘conference win' (over Brewton Parker) and the possibilities of competing with a good ASU team. Now that Maggie (Bee) has been healthy for more than one week before the match, I think we will see great productivity from her rotations."

Huebner noted Bee's presence in his above statement. Bee, the leading setter for the Mariners, missed several matches with a head injury this season and returned to the floor for Coastal Georgia just before the last match against Augusta State.

In Monday's match at Brewton Parker, Holly Hammer posted a double-double performance with 14 kills and 11 digs. Amanda Kline followed with eight kills and also notched four blocks. Bee finished with 21 assists and Kansas Robison added to her team-best digs numbers with 25 digs in the win.
