The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team dropped its season finale 3-1 Tuesday night at Augusta State. The Mariners won the opening set 25-19 over the Jaguars, but the home team rebounded to win the next three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-15, 25-11 to claim the match victory.
The loss left the Mariners with a 15-17 final record for their debut season. A win would have gotten Coastal Georgia to the .500 mark for the year. Augusta State improved to 15-18 with the win and will now prepare to host the Peach Belt Conference tournament this weekend. The loss was the second this season for the Mariners to Augusta State. The teams met Oct. 29 in Brunswick with Augusta State also winning that match 3-1.
In Tuesday night's contest, Holly Hammer led the Mariners with 12 kills, but Coastal Georgia finished hitting just .111 as a team. Maggie Bee and Al Aplington combined for 36 assists for the Mariners. Kansas Robison led the team with 26 dig
