Valdosta, Ga. - The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team won a match and lost a match Saturday on the second day of the Fairfield Inn and Suites Azalea Classic at Valdosta State.
The Mariners blanked Albany State in three sets, winning 25-13, 25-22, 25-22, but lost in three sets to Valdosta State, falling 17-25, 17-25, 19-25. The matches were the first three-set contests for the Mariners this season.
With the doubleheader split, the Mariners are 5-4 on the young season through the first nine matches. Coastal Georgia finished the Valdosta tournament with a 2-2 record. The Mariners also split two matches on Friday, losing to Lander University before knocking off Converse College.
Against the Golden Rams, the Mariners got 13 kills from junior outside hitter Lindsay Herman and 11 kills from sophomore middle blocker Amanda Kline. Joy Ogide, a senior middle blocker for Coastal Georgia, finished with three assisted blocks and two solos.
In the loss to the Blazers, Herman led with nine kills and Kara Neisen finished with eight. Herman also had 11 digs to lead the Mariners.
Nikki McDaniel and Destiny Berry led the Blazers with 14 and 11 kills, respectively.
Valdosta State finished its tournament with a 4-0 record.
