Jackson, Miss. - The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision Saturday at Belhaven University in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
The Mariners pushed the home team to the brink in each of the last two sets, but could not break through and claim a set, thus getting blanked 3-0 in the match. Coastal Georgia lost the opening set 25-12 and battled Belhaven in the second and third sets before losing both of those by scores of 28-26 and 26-24.
With the loss, the Mariners dropped both of their matches on their first weekend road swing in the conference. They Mariners also lost 3-0 on Friday at Loyola University in New Orleans.
Coastal Georgia is now 8-11 for the season and 2-3 in SSAC matches. Belhaven continued its impressive season to date with the victory over Coastal Georgia as the Blazers ran their record to 14-3 overall and 6-1 in conference.
In Saturday's defeat, Lindsey Herman led the Marines with 11 kills. She was the only Coastal Georgia player to reach double-figures in the loss. Kara Neisen led the Mariners with 19 digs and Kansas Robison followed closely with 18.
For the Blazers, Taylor Williams led with 13 kills. She also was the only Belhaven player to record a double-digit kill total.
Neither team hit the ball well. Coastal Georgia finished hitting .066 with 37 kills and 28 errors in 137 swings. Belhaven finished hitting.161 with 31 kills and 19 errors in 124 total attempts.
