Mariners cruise past Bethel, win league match 3-0

McKenzie, Tenn. - The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory Friday night over Bethel University in Southern States Athletic Conferenc action to open its weekend road trip to Tennessee.

The Mariners (17-9 overall, 8-3 conference) won by set scores of 25-21, 29-27, 25-19 and remained tied for fourth in the SSAC with the road win.

Coastal Georgia will play at Martin Methodist on Saturday. Martin Methodist won its first conference match of the season Friday night over Brewton-Parker.

The Mariners mounted an efficient offensive attack in Friday's victory, totaling 55 kills and eight aces over the three sets.

Sophomore Kara Neisen led the attack with 17 kills and finished hitting .517 for the match. Also for Coastal Georgia, Amanda Kline and Allie Shannon both recorded 10 kills in the win with Shannon hitting .529 for the night and Kline hitting .421. Shannon also posted two blocks.

Rachel Amundson contiues to play well since returning from an injury as the freshman notched eight kills to go with 10 digs and two aces for the Mariners. Freshman setter Cayley Meiners rang up 42 assists and also had four kills, four aces and five digs, giving the Mariners solid all-around play.

Senior Maggie Bee led the defense with 14 digs. She also served an ace for the Mariners.

Holly Hammer added 2 1/2 blocks for Coastal Georgia.

"Our middle (blockers) were terrific the entire match," said Coastal Georgia coach Jeff Huebner. "Cayley Meiners set one of her best matches of the year in terms of decision-making."
