Brunswick, Ga. – The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team opened its 2013 Southern States Athletic Conference schedule on a successful note, rolling to a 3-0 victory Tuesday night over Brewton-Parker in the conference opener for both teams at Howard Coffin Gym.
The Mariners (10-5) sailed past the Barons by scores of 25-12, 25-9, 25-21 to take the match in the minimum number of sets.
The Mariners hit .403 as a team with 39 kills in 67 total attacks. Holly Hammer led the offense with 15 kills in 26 swings while Kara Neisen totaled 13 kills in 18 attempts.
Cayley Meiners recorded 32 assists for the match. Kansas Robison led the Mariners with 15 digs and also 21 serve receives.
Tiara Martin finished with two solo blocks and also assisted on three others, helping the Mariners record six blocks in the victory.
Coastal Georgia, which leads all SSAC teams in service aces, recorded five aces in the three sets.
The Mariners, who improved to 5-0 on their home floor this season including the four victories in the earlier Mariner Invitational, will remain at home this weekend for two more conference matches. They host Faulkner at 6:30 p.m. Friday before playing host to Brenau at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
