Mariners blank Brenau, 3-0

Gainesville, Ga. - The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team finished out the first half of its Southern States Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-0 victory here Saturday at Brenau.

The No. 13 Mariners topped the Golden Tigers by 25-16, 26-24, 25-21.

With the win, Coastal Georgia ran its record to 17-2 overall while also finishing out the first round of league matches with an 8-0 record, having now  played each team in the league once. With another straight-set win, the Mariners won six of their first eight SSAC matches by 3-0 scores.

The Tigers fell to 7-11, 2-6 with the loss.

The Mariners were coming off a 3-1 loss Friday night at NCAA Division II school Georgia College and State.

Against the Tigers, Coastal Georgia rang up 48 kills in 98 attacks to hit a solid. 357 in the match. The Mariners made 13 errors.

Coastal Georgia had three players reach double digits in kills including Kara Neisen (13), Regan Coughlin (11) and Emma Anderson (10). Cayley Meiners and Allie Shannon contriubuted five each while Kyra White added four.

Meiners dished out 34 assists in the win.

Coastal Georgia held Brenau to a .192 hitting mark as the home team finished with 38 kills and 18 mishits in 104 attempts. Cayla Graham led the team with 13 kills.

Defensively, the Mariners totaled 44 digs. Neisen finished with 11 for a double-double performance while Anderson notched 10 to also record a double-double. Alyssa Keeve and Meiners both added eight apiece.

The Mariners will start the second half of their SSAC ledger next weekend on the road with matches at Loyola on Friday and Mobile on Saturday.
