Mount Vernon, Ga. – The College of Coastal Georgia men's basketball team dropped another Southern States Athletic Conference contest Monday at Brewton-Parker, falling 101-83 here to the Barons.
The loss left the Mariners with a 3-14 overall record and they are now 0-8 in league play.
With the win, the Barons moved to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in conference action.
In defeat, Coastal Georgia got a game-high 24 points from Brandon Martin and also 21 Jordan Lewis who matched his career-high. Haylen Washington contributed 12 points and also finished with a team-best seven rebounds.
As a team, the Mariners shot 48.4 percent (31-64) for the game, but that wasn't good enough to keep pace with the Barons who shot 55.9 percent (33-59) while making 12 of their 23 attempts from three-point territory and also hitting 23 of their 28 foul shots.
McKel Miller led the Barons with 23 points while going 5-for-8 from the three-point line.
Brewton-Parker led by as much as 13 in the opening half before taking a 48-39 lead into intermission.
The Barons shot 57.7 percent (15-26) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes while hitting 7-of-9 three-point attempts. Miller was 3-for-4 from the arc for the Barons while leading them with 11 first-half points.
Lewis led Coastal Georgia with 13 points before halftime while Washington scored 10. The Mariners shot 48.3 percent (14-29) from the field but hurt themselves with 14 turnovers which prevented them from keeping pace with the hot-shooting Barons in the opening frame.
After halftime, the Barons continued to shoot it well from the three-point land, hitting three in the first four minutes of the half to match its largest lead from the opening half at 61-48.
Coastal Georgia stayed in the game throughout the first 17 minutes of the second half, but could never get closer than five points on the scoreboard.
The Mariners trailed 87-79 with 3:08 to go, but after a Coastal Georgia timeout, the Barons built their lead back to twin figures down the stretch.
Brewton-Parker's Miller made a three-pointer just before the final horn to make for the final score.
Coastal Georgia will remain on the road this week, playing at Middle Georgia State on Thursday before playing at nationally-ranked Dalton State on Saturday.
