Mariners Roll to Fourth Straight Win

Brunswick, Ga – EverBank Field may have hosted the Florida Gators and the University of Georgia Bulldogs this afternoon, but Coffin Gym held action as well with Mariner volleyball playing host to conference opponent Keiser University. With the Sun Conference tournament weeks away, today's contest was all that important. The Mariners (9-11 overall, 8-5 SUN) came into today's match ranked fourth in league play while Keiser University (9-19 overall, 6-8 SUN) sat just one spot back.

Mariners started off hot in the first set going 6-1 before the Seahawks needed to regroup with a timeout. Building that fire, the Mariners took charge on their way to a well-played 25-20 win in the first.

The second set told a different story. Keiser University was led by Junior Rasheena Masnel with six kills, with Samantha Thompson close behind with five. Masel and the Seahawks played a hard second set defeating the Coastal Georgia 25-19 to even the match.

At the 14-14 mark in the third, Mariner head coach Leah Mihm called a timeout. "We talked about everyone is playing as individuals. We really needed to come together in that timeout especially in that third set", Coach Mihm added. Coach must have known what the team needed because Coastal Georgia won that third set 25-15.

Sophomore Addie Pedraza (10), Juniors Kyra White (11) and Alexis Downey (10) all recorded double digit kills in helping led the attack on the Seahawks to a 3-1 final after victory came in fourth 25-19.

The Mariners winning streak of four is the longest of the season. Winning today was not only big for conference reasons, but also pride as KU defeated Coastal Georgia earlier in October.

The Mariners next match will be on the road Wednesday, November 1 against Southeastern University at 7pm ET.
