Volleyball Blanks Florida Memorial, 3-0

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Coastal Georgia volleyball opened a three-match regular-season ending homestand with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) sweep of Florida Memorial on Saturday afternoon at Coffin Gym.

Kyra White and Molly Fletcher led the Mariners with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Ashley Kot put up 35 assists, while Yorelis Rios Gonzalez made 16 digs.

Hitting over .200 in each set allowed the Mariners to record a .230 attack percentage for the match.

A five-point run early in the set quickly separated the Mariners from Florida Memorial. Rios Gonzalez served up ace that capped the run and made it an 11-6 score. The Lions attempted to come back and pulled to within three on Yulianna Charris' ace at 20-17. However, a four-point Mariner run ultimately closed the set.

A kill from Fletcher sparked an eight-point spurt the lifted the Mariners to an early 10-4 lead in the second set. Coastal Georgia went on the lead by as many as 10, taking an 18-8 advantage on another Fletcher kill.  Although the Lions trimmed Coastal Georgia's lead down to five, Sam Kepler notched the set-winning kill to put the Mariners up 2-0 in the match.

Up by three, Coastal Georgia pushed its lead to nine midway through the third set. Adair Werley's kill sparked a six-point run that gave the Mariners a 19-10 lead. Coastal Georgia also held a nine-point lead at 23-14 after a White kill. Florida Memorial answered with a five-point run in order to make it a 23-19 set, but a kill from White and a Lion attack error ended the match.

Coastal Georgia plays again on Wednesday when Sun Conference leader Webber International visits Coffin Gym. Match time is at 7 p.m.
