Volleyball Sweeps Florida Memorial, 3-0

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Coastal Georgia volleyball posted a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-22) sweep of Florida Memorial on Saturday afternoon.

Azure Werner tallied a match-high 10 kills, while Ashley Kot put up 32 assists. Yorelis Rios Gonzalez made 17 digs.

Coastal Georgia hit .291 for the match with 39 kills.

Tied at 13-13 in the first set, a kill from Werner started a key run that lifted the Mariners to an 18-13 lead. A block from Molly Fletcher and Alexis Downey later put the Mariners at 24-18 set point. Although Florida Memorial held on for the next two points, a Lion attacking error provided Coastal Georgia with the final point it needed for the set.

An 11-point run for Coastal Georgia define the second set. After Fletcher's kill began the run and returned service to the Mariners, Downey's strong serving capabilities allowed Coastal Georgia to continue with their scoring streak and go up 20-9. Of the 11 services Downey had, she registered five aces. To end the set, Downey also had a block solo that clinched that gave Coastal Georgia the 2-0 lead for the match.

Coastal Georgia held off Florida Memorial's late rally in the final set. The Mariners saw the Florida Memorial rattled off three points and pull to within one after a Dayla Hall and Jesennia Bonilla block cut Coastal Georgia's lead to 19-18. Coastal Georgia gained a late four-point 23-19 lead after kills from Fletcher and Addie Pedraza as well as a Florida Memorial attack error. Although the Lions came to within two, a kill from Fletcher closed out the set and the match.

Coastal Georgia wraps up its five-match road swing on Wednesday with a match at Sun Conference leader Webber International. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
