BRUNSWICK, Ga. – No. 3 seed Coastal Georgia volleyball extended its season by capturing a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 26-24) victory against No. 6 seed Keiser in the opening round of The Sun Conference Tournament Tuesday night in Coffin Gym.
With the win on Tuesday night, Coastal Georgia advances to Friday's semifinals against No. 2 seed Southeastern. Match time is at 3:30 p.m. from Webber International's Sabbagh Athletic Center.
Addie Pedraza led the Mariners with 12 kills, while Kyra White hit .500 and recorded 11 kills. Ashley Kot put up 35 assists, while Yorelis Rios Gonzalez made 13 digs.
Coastal Georgia hit .255 for the match, making 44 kills.
Abbie Seward led the Seahawks with 16 kills. Brooklyn VandeHei tallied 30 assists, and Morgan Leff dug 12 balls.
Keiser hit .214 with 35 kills.
A pair of late three-point runs helped the Mariners to pull away from Keiser in the first set. Tied at 15-15, a kill from White started the first run that lifted Coastal Georgia to an 18-15 lead. A kill from Pedraza sparked the second scoring stretch, powering the Mariners to a 21-17 advantage. Although Keiser pulled two within two twice, a Seahawk attack error and a service ace from Kot won the set.
Another late run was key for the Mariners in the second set. Tied at 16-all, Coastal Georgia went on a five-point spurt in order to take a 21-16 lead. Keiser answered with a 4-1 run to come to within two, but Coastal Georgia scored three of the last four points to win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Coastal Georgia came back from a late four-point deficit to capture the third set and the match. Keiser held a 21-17 lead after a kill from Faryn Salazar. The Seahawks ultimately had a set-point advantage after Seward's kill made it 24-22. However, a kill from Pedraza on the next rally sparked a match-ending four-point comeback for the Mariners.
