Volleyball Downs Warner, 3-1

LAKE WALES, Fla. – After dropping the first set, Coastal Georgia volleyball came back to take the next three stanzas in order to claim a key 3-1 (19-25, 30-28, 25-22, 25-16) road victory at Warner on Wednesday evening.

Four Mariners had double-digit kills. Adair Werley tallied a match-high 13 kills, while Molly Fletcher made 12 kills. Alexis Downey and Kyra White recorded 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Ashley Kot notched another double-double, making 47 assists and 17 digs on the night. Yorelis Rios Gonzalez tallied 25 digs, while Laney Green chipped in with 19 digs.

Coastal Georgia tallied 58 kills and 88 digs for the night.

After Warner took a late seven-point lead, Coastal Georgia clawed back to make it a three-point differential. Ashley Kot's kill put the Mariners to within three as Warner held a 20-17 lead. However, Warner was able to score back-to-back points twice, including the set's final two points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

In a close second set, Coastal Georgia got to set point advantage after kills from Sam Kepler and White made it 24-23. A Warner kill on the next point tied the set. The two teams battled back and forth for control of the set. Momentum swung towards Coastal Georgia with a Downey kill that put the Mainers up 29-28. A Warner attack error on the next point provided Coastal Georgia with set point and tied the match at 1-1.

Trailing by three in the third set, a Werley kill sparked a timely six-point run to lift the Mariners to a 19-16 lead. A kill from Fletcher ultimately moved the Mariners to set point, but Warner kept the set alive with a three-point run to make it 24-22. A kill from White sealed the set and Coastal Georgia went up 2-1 in the match.

Coastal Georgia sailed through the fourth set en route to the match win. Up by four, a five-point run allowed the Mariners to expand their lead to 17-8.  The Mariners went on to win the match on a solo block by White.

Coastal Georgia returns to action on Saturday with a match at Johnson & Wales. Match time is set for 2 p.
