BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Coastal Georgia (16-6, 9-2) fell to Keiser (25-8, 9-2) in straight sets. Despite tight sets and incredibly competitive play, the Mariners could not pull out a victory.
Addie Pedraza led the Mariner offense with a game-high 14 kills. She maintained a .300 hitting percentage in today's match. Sophomore hitter Tamaira Laezza totaled nine kills, a season-high in three sets. Notably, junior middle blocker Alison Muldrow hit .600 in today's match. She totaled seven kills on 10 attempts. This is her second highest hitting percentage in her career as a Mariner.
Defensively, senior Yorelis Rios Gonzalez collected 11 digs. Junior setter Ashley Kot added six. Kot also led the Mariners with 25 assists and junior setter Gardieliz Laureano-Andujar totaled 15.
The Mariners blocked well against Keiser's offense. As a team, they collected eight block assists and one block solo. The solo came from Pedraza stuffing Keiser's setter on a front row dump at the net. Pedraza also collected three block assists. Muldrow threw a block party. She tied her career-high with four block assists. Sophomore rightside Adair Werley added the final block assist.
The Mariners played well against Keiser. The two teams matched almost even in all statistical categories. Despite playing evenly matched, the Mariners just couldn't hold onto their 22-19 lead in the first set. In the second, after duking it out to a tie game five times after 19-19, the Mariners gave up two in a row to allow Keiser to win 26-24.
In the third set, the Seahawks took a lead from the beginning and maintained it through the remainder of the set. The Mariners lost set three 25-17.
With this loss, the Coastal Georgia Mariners are 9-2 in the Sun Conference play and are now second in the Conference standings. Keiser, who also has a 9-2 record in conference takes the top spot since they beat Coastal Georgia in both head to head competitions.
The Mariners are back in action next Saturday, October 26th on the road against Ave Maria University
