Mariners take Gyrenes in Straight Sets

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Coastal Georgia Mariners (8-5, 2-1) beat the Ave Maria Gyrenes (3-7, 1-3) in three sets.

Sophomore rightside Adair Werley and senior outside Addie Pedraza led the Mariners offensively in today's match. Each collected nine kills. Werley maintained a .263 hitting percentage.

Following close behind was sophomore middle Tamaira Laezza with eight kills, a season-high in three sets. Laezza was especially effective with her tip kills.

Playing a 5-1, junior setter Ashley Kot led the Mariners with 34 assists. She also added an ace and a block assist. Kot was incredibly efficient with her setter dumps and attacks, totaling three kills.

Defensively, the Mariners had three collect double-digit digs. Libero Yorelis Rios Gonzalez collected 18, while both Kot and senior Sam Kepler added 11. Gardieliz Laureano-Andujar stepped into a new role today playing right back defense. She totaled nine digs in two sets.

Senior Jane Townsend stepped up her serving game, reaching a career high three aces.

The Mariners also threw a block party, racking up eight block assists and two solo blocks. Junior middle Alison Muldrow led the pack collecting four block assists. In addition, Pedraza added two block assists and Werley and Kot collected one a piece. Laezza proved solid today recording two block solos to aid the Mariner's first line of defense.

The Mariners are back in action Wednesday, September 25 against Southeastern University on the road.
