Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia Volleyball Team opened its season against Brewton-Parker on Saturday in the Howard Coffin Gym. The Mariners dominated, winning the match 3-0 with scores of 25-6, 25-10 and 25-17.
Natalia Willhelm Heguaburu led the way offensively with 13 points thanks to a team-high nine kills, three aces and a block. Elena Gkiourda and Sydney Martin also were forces offensively recording 11 and 10 points respectively.
Junior Rebecca Brown set up her teammates well for kills on her way to 19 assists. Freshmen Chantiya Johnson, Paula Perez Rosales and Breanna Tanton saw a lot of playing time in their first collegiate game and made the most of their opportunities.
Johnson recorded six kills on seven attempts for a team-best .857 hitting percentage. Perez-Rosales held down the back line, recording a team-high 13 digs while also recording four serving aces. Tanton recorded six assists and an ace in the two sets she played.
Head coach Val Every was proud of the way her team played.
"Today was a perfect way to open our season. Our team worked hard, earned our points and limited the errors on our side of the net. We had incredible control on offense putting up a .477 hitting percentage as a team," said Every. "I'm incredibly proud of this team and how they handled the match today, we are looking forward to the rest of the season."
As a team, Coastal Georgia limited the Barons to just a .033 hitting percentage and only recorded eight errors.
