No. 21 Mariners Head to Ave Maria for Final Conference Road Trip

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The No. 21 Coastal Georgia softball team (31-10, 15-3) will face Ave Maria (18-21, 5-13) this weekend beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, April 21 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. followed by a single game on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m.

The Mariners are coming off their toughest stretch of the season after facing No. 16 Southeastern, No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett, (RV) St. Thomas and No. 11 Middle Georgia State all within 12 days.

Coastal Georgia will look to bounce back against a Gyrenes squad that is just 4-10 against the Mariners all-time. The Mariners beat the Gyrenes three out of the four times they played last season including a 3-2 victory in the Sun Conference Tournament.

Story Lines:
Home Run Derby-
Shutting Out Opponents-
  • The Mariners pitching staff has 13 shutouts this year which is most in the conference and ranks 6th in the NAIA.
  • Dickerson and B. Peacock lead the way for Mariners bullpen that has a combined 2.08 ERA on the year as they have a 1.21 and 2.12 ERA, respectively.
Mariners in the Outfield-
  • The outfield of Rori Rhodes, Jones and M. Peacock has been nearly perfect all season with just two errors combined.
  • Jones has been the everyday starter at center field for Mike Minick's squad and also leads the team in stolen bases with 16.
  • In several games this season, M. Peacock has made several spectacular catches in right field and has proven to be one of the best gloves in the conference.
  • The left field, usually manned by Rhodes, has been busy all season and Rhodes has answered the bell with some great plays of her own.
