Volleyball Preps for First SUN Match of the Season

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia volleyball team will host Southeastern University (7-2) in its first Sun Conference match of the season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Howard Coffin Gym.

The Fire will come into Brunswick having won five of its last six including a win over No. 12 Taylor University. 

The Mariners snapped a four-game losing streak with a dominant 3-0 win against Wesleyan College were they hit .284 as a team and held the Wolves to a hitting percentage of -.031. Head Coach Val Every will look for her team to carry that strong play into Wednesday's match.

HISTORY:

Coastal Georgia lost 3-1 to Southeastern in their most recent match up, but the Mariners took set one and forced a tough set four that saw the Fire escape 31-29 to take the win. The Mariners lead the series 13-9 all-time.

QUICK HITS:
  • Paula Perez Rosales will look to be back in action after missing the last three games but senior Madison Heskett stepped up and played well in her return to the court after almost a year due to injury. Heskett recorded 17 kills to just one error while hitting .500 over two games on Saturday.
  • Southeastern currently leads the SUN in digs per set (15.71) and has done a great job all year at limiting teams' kill totals, holding opponents to just 10.65 kills per set which is good for second-best in the SUN.
  • Newcomer Raevyn Russell has been sensational for the Mariners. She leads the team with 77 points and 70 kills and has played in all 25 of the teams sets this season.
