Volleyball Hosts Seahawks in SUN Match

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia volleyball team (4-6, 1-2) will be back at home on Saturday, Sept. 23 to host Keiser University in a Sun Conference clash starting at 2 p.m. in the Coffin Gym.

The Mariners are coming off a 3-1 victory over Warner University on Wednesday night, their first conference win of the season, and will look to build on that heading into the weekend.

The Seahawks (17-6, 1-1) already have a lot of games under their belt, but are coming off a 3-2 loss to Ave Maria earlier in the week.

HISTORY-

Coastal Georgia is 7-8 all-time against the Seahawks and have lost seven of its last eight matches against them. Keiser hasn't lost back-to-back SUN matches since 2021 when Coastal, Florida Memorial, Southeastern and St. Thomas beat them in consecutive matches.

The Seahawks will enter this game with a bit of deja vu as they lost 3-2 to the Gyrenes last season before taking on Coastal, a match Keiser won 3-1. The Mariners will look to rewrite the script in 2023.

BY THE NUMBERS-
  • Chantiya Johnson leads the way for a Mariners team that is fourth in the conference in blocks per set (1.75). Johnson leads the team with .84 blocks per set which is good for fifth-best in the SUN. Coastal Georgia also had the lowest amount of blocks against them in SUN while the Seahawks have the most.
  • While the Mariners will look to establish the block, Keiser will look to do what it does best: serve. The Seahawks average a conference-best 2.42 aces per set and the Mariners have allowed the most aces per set with 2.11.
  • Keiser boasts on of the best players in the SUN in Brooklynn Slater who leads the conference with 4.88 points per set and is second in kills per set. Raevyn Russell is having a solid season of her own, leading the Mariners with 3.35 points per set and 3.03 kills per set, both of which rank in the top 10.
