Women's Basketball Travels to Mount Vernon for Clash with Barons

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Following an emotional first win of the season, the College of Coastal Georgia women's basketball team returns to action on Monday when they travel to Mount Vernon, Ga. to take on the Brewton-Parker Barons.

The Mariners (1-0) defeated the Middle Georgia State Knights on Tuesday night by a final of 62-48 which secured interim head coach Corey Harris his first collegiate head coaching win. Morgon Webb led the way for CCGA scoring 18 points in her senior season debut, while fellow senior Tyler Butler dropped 16 points and 15 rebounds for the first double-double of the season for the Mariners. CCGA outrebounded the Knights 47-24 and had an assist-turnover margin of exactly one in the winning effort. Young freshman Maylei Noreika had a coming out party in her first start and action in a Mariners uniform scoring eight points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and adding a pair of blocks.

For the Barons, they come in with a 1-1 record, having played two straight Sun Conference opponents to open their season. BPC dropped their opener to Southeastern by four before turning around and defeating Webber International by a final of 69-62 on Tuesday night. Destanee Wright leads the Barons in scoring through two games, averaging 18.5 PPG with a 24 point effort in the opener against the Fire. Kaziah Terrell, Chasity Deagle and Angel McRae all also average in the double figures early in the season for Brewton-Parker, giving them multiple options offensively. As a team, the Barons are averaging 77 points per game on 45 percent shooting and 31 percent from three.

This will be the 28th meeting all time between the two programs, with CCGA holding a 17-10 series lead. Brewton-Parker is on a six game winning streak in the series, with the last Mariners win coming on November 9, 2020.

Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Gillis Gymnasium.
