Box Score 4 COLUMBUS, Ga. - It was a busy weekend for head coach Mike Minick and the Coastal Georgia softball team as they went 3-3 in the NFCA Leadoff Classic which was held in Columbus.
"I thought it was a really good week for our team," said head coach Mike Minick. "We needed to go play some really good teams before conference play, and having one of the tougher schedules over there we now know a lot more about our team before we went and we are a better team now than we were before we went."
It was a tough start to the weekend as the Mariners (9-3) dropped both games on Friday afternoon, dropping their first game 3-0 to Freed Hardman and losing the nightcap to Cumberlands by a final of 14-1.Â
CCGA did bounce back on Saturday winning two of three. The day started with a 3-2 win over Georgetown before dropping the middle game to Central Methodist 11-5. The girls rallied and finished the long Saturday strong, defeating Campbellsville by a final of 5-2.Â
There was just one game on Sunday for the Mariners as they got a big win over Embry-Riddle (AZ) 7-5, completing the NFCA Leadoff Classic, and six games in three days.Â
"Three games in one day is a lot but they battled and got better and we feel like with another 10 games before conference games start, we will definitely be ready when those games start for us and this trip helped us get where we need to be," added coach Minick.Â
Softball will return home on Tuesday, February 20th, for a non-conference double header, hosting the Columbia College Koalas. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. from Brunswick High School.Â
