BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Coastal Georgia women's tennis team returns to action this weekend and into early next week as they travel to Ave Maria to take on the Gyrenes on Sunday afternoon before traveling to Hialeah, Fla to take on Florida National on Monday afternoon.
The (RV) Mariners (2-3) snapped a brief two match losing streak last time out, defeating Georgetown by a 7-0 final. Five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets, including dominant play from
Ana Gonzalez,
Lisa McKenzie, and
Laetitia Grand who all won by 6-4 or better.
Danielle Silvan,
Azul Malatini, and
Chloe Do Lago all also played solid tennis in their last matches, and will look to use the momentum going forward.
For the Gyrenes (2-8), they come in after snapping a losing streak of their own with a 4-0 win over Sun Conference opponent Warner. Vitoria Barandas and Clara Penido dominated the No. 1 doubles line in that match, putting the point away 6-0. Barandas also won her singles match 6-0, 6-0, as Penido wrapped the match up with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the second singles line. The Gyrenes know how to score and make matches closer than they should be, which could prove troublesome for the Mariners.
For the Conquistadors, they come in following a 4-3 vicotry over Hillsdale College last Monday, and have won two of their last three matchups. After losing the doubles point, Nadia Abad, Vanessa Simone, Celeste Deniz Reyes, and Chiara Fiorenza all won singles points from lines 3-6 to complete the victory after falling far behind early. They used the same recipe to beat Ave Maria earlier in the season, proving that the Mariners will need to stay locked in the entire day to ensure victory.
First serve is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, followed by a 12 p.m. first serve on Monday afternoon.
