Women's Golf Finishes Ninth at Innisbrook

PALM HARBOR, Fla. - After making history one day ago, the College of Coastal Georgia women's golf team couldn't keep pace after firing a third round 317 to finish in ninth place at the Invite at Innisbrook.

Senior Claire Wickes led the Mariners with a third round 75, her best of the tournament after back-to-back 76's yesterday. Wickes finished in a tie for 22nd place on the leaderboard with Madelyn Taylor who shot a 78 in her third and final round on Tuesday.

Elise Forberg, who shot one under par in round two, couldn't find her magic one again in round three, shooting an 81 to finish in 32nd place. Wrapping up the scoring for the Mariners, Laura Kate Kessler and Madison Melton both shot final round 83's, with Kessler finishing in 43rd place while Melton finished in 66th place.

After leading all day yesterday, SCAD-Savanah did not relinquish their lead as they took home first place shooting 13 over par to finish 19 over, 16 strokes ahead of Dalton State who finished second. Eckerd, Southeastern, and Marian rounded out the top five. There was a three way tie atop the individual leaderboard as Jia Kataria and Sara Burger of Dalton State tied with Marlie Smit of Southeastern at three over par for the tournament.

The Mariners will take a much needed break as they will wrap up their fall season on October 28-29 as they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to partake in the SEU Fire Fall Invitational, hosted by Southeastern.
