Corey Harris No Longer Interim; Promoted To Women's Basketball Head Coach

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - After taking over the College of Coastal Georgia women's basketball program at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season and serving in an interim head coaching role for his first season, Corey Harris has officially been promoted to the full time head coaching position moving forward for CCGA Women's Basketball.

"I am very excited to be the next leader of this program," said Harris. "This past season was an unforgettable year with a lot of firsts; however I am very excited for the future of this program. I would like to thank Dr. Johnny Evans, AD Zack Rogers and the administration for believing in me and the vision of this program. I also want to thank my wife Tori and my two kids for their sacrifice and support. Get ready…. Let's RIDE THE WAVE. GO MARINERS!"

Harris led the Mariners to a 12-12 overall record and a 5-11 conference record in his first season at the helm of the program, winning the second most games by a first year head coach in school history, trailing only Jonathon Barbaree who began his career with a 13-17 record in the 2014-15 season.

"I am extremely excited for Corey, his family, and for the future of women's basketball at the College of Coastal Georgia," said Director of Athletics, Zack Rogers. "As a proud alumnus and former men's basketball standout from the Class of 2017, Coach Harris understands what it means to wear Coastal blue. During his stint as interim head coach, the women's team achieved the third-highest GPA in the athletic department and demonstrated significant growth on the court. Corey is committed to building a positive culture, establishing a winning tradition, and delivering an unrivaled student-athlete experience. I have no doubt he will achieve all of this and more."

During his first season, Harris also coached Tyler Butler to Second Team All-Sun Conference honors while also coaching freshman Peyton Shafer to 70 steals, the most by a freshman in school history. Harris also raised the program GPA to heights not seen in many years, as he finished the 2024-25 school year with a team GPA of 3.37, good enough for an NAIA Scholar Team recognition.

"We are incredibly proud to promote Coach Corey Harris as the head coach of our women's basketball program." said Dr. Johnny Evans Jr. "This promotion is a reflection of his hard work and the positive impact he's made both on and off the court. We are grateful for all he has done, and will continue to do, for our college community, and we look forward to the continued success of the program under his guidance."

Harris and the Mariners are in preparation for the 2025-26 season to tip off in October.
