Mariners ease past Brewton-Parker, 3-0

Brunswick, Ga. – The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team picked up another Southern States Athletic Conference win Tuesday night, knocking off Brewton-Parker 3-0 at Howard Coffin Gym.

The rare weeknight game served as Faculty and Staff Night and several Coastal Georgia employees were invited by the team to participate in a ceremonial first serve prior to the match and also participate in other activities with the team. The faculty and staff members were also introduced along with the Coastal Georgia players during the pregame.

Once the match started, the No. 13 Mariners went to work and won in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-12, 25-11 over the Barons.

With the win, the Mariners ran their record to 16-1 while remaining perfect in the conference with their seventh straight victory to start the league schedule.

The Barons dropped to 1-13 and 0-7 with the loss.

The Mariners, while substituting freely, finished with 42 kills in 72 attacks and finished hitting .421 for the contest.

Kara Neisen and Regan Coughlin led the Mariners with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Neisen hit .667 for the match, finishing with no errors in 18 swings. Coughlin finished hitting .500 with three mishits in 16 attempts.

Also for the Mariners, Allie Shannon hit .500 with six kills and an error in 10 attacks.

Cayley Meiners and Leah Anderson combined for 36 assists with Meiners setting up 18 kills and Anderson assisting on 14.

The Mariners finished with 11 aces with seven different players recording at least one ace in the three sets.

Defensively the Mariners checked the Barons to just 16 kills in 63 attempts. The Barons made 13 errors and finished with a .048 hitting percentage.

Coastal Georgia recorded 34 digs overall with Alyssa Keeve leading the effort with 11.

Autumn Beasley from Brunswick and Destinee Benton each had five kills to lead the Barons.

The Mariners go back on the road Friday for a non-conference match in Milledgeville against NCAA Division II Georgia College and State. They play a conference match Saturday at Brenau. That match has been moved to noon instead of 2 p.m.
