Brunswick, Ga. – The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team closed out the regular season Saturday with a bang, knocking off Brenau 3-0 at Howard Coffin Gym.
After honoring their very accomplished senior class during a Senior Day ceremony prior to the match, the Mariners proceeded to blank the Tigers 25-11, 25-12, 25-14 to finish out this week's three-match home stand with another victory in straight sets.
The Mariners began the week with a 3-0 win over Faulkner before also defeating Brenau by 3-0 on Friday night.
With Saturday's victory, the Mariners finished the regular schedule with a 24-7 overall record and a 17-3 mark in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
The Mariners will now turn their attention to the postseason which begins next Thursday with the SSAC tournament in Montgomery, Ala. Coastal Georgia will be looking to claim a third straight conference tournament title and an automatic berth to the NAIA national championship tournament.
On Saturday, Coastal Georgia mounted a potent offensive attack just as it did on Thursday and Friday, pounding out 44 kills while making just five errors in 88 total attempts. The team finished hitting .443 for the match.
Senior Allie Shannon fronted the assault with 11 kills in 21 swings, Kyra White registered 10 kills in 14 attempts, Kayla Gadberry followed with nine kills in 16 swings and Rachel Amundson added eight kills in 20 attempts.
Cayley Meiners was steady again as the team's setter as she assisted on 36 points.
The Mariners also notched six aces with Shannon, Amundson and Hannah Mitchell all getting two apiece.
Defensively, the Mariners limited the Tigers to just 20 kills over the three sets. Coastal Georgia finished with 54 digs as Amundson led the way with 11. Jennifer Johnson and Meiners added nine apiece. Alyssa Keeve finished with seven digs and nine receptions without an error.
Coastal Georgia also totaled six blocks by having 11 assisted blocks. Shannon had five and Ehize Omoghibo four.
Jasmine Jones led the Tigers with 10 kills. Carlee Praznick had 14 digs and 19 receptions. Pamela Konken finished with 35 receptions.
