Mariners top Brenau after blanking Brewton-Parker

Macon, Ga. - The College of Coastal Georgia women's tennis team played the perfect match here Friday morning, toppling Brewton-Parker 9-0 in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup.

Their day became even more impressive late Friday afternoon when the Mariners knocked off No. 13 Brenau 6-3.

In the match against the Barons, the Mariners did not drop a single game on the way to victory, winning all three doubles matches by 8-0 before also sweeping the six singles matches by 6,0, 6-0 counts.

In doubles, the Mariners' teams were Daniella Caruso and Samantha Sepe, Samantha Lasslett and Lindsey Lawing and Paige DeLaPerriere and Madeline Garner.

In singles, the Mariners played Caruso at No. 1, Sepe at No. 2, Lasslett at No. 3, Lawing at No. 4, DeLaPerriere at No. 5 and Garner at No. 6.

Against Brenau, which was 3-9 coming in after playing a challenging early schedule, the Mariners grabbed control by sweeping the doubles matches for a 3-0 lead. Caruso and Sepe teamed for a 9-7 victory at the No. 1 spot while Lasslett and Lawing also gave the Mariners a 9-7 win in the second slot. At No. 3, DeLaPerriere and Garner combined for an 8-4 win for the Mariners.

In the singles, the Golden Tigers did get three wins, but the Mariners also won three matches to take the overall match. Caruso clinched the match at the No. 1 spot with a 7-6, 6-1 victory.

Other winners for the Mariners were Lawing who won 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 5 and Garner who won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

In the other matches, Sepe fell tough in a three-set match at No. 2, losing 4-6, 6-2, 0-6, Lasslett fell 4-6, 2-6 at No. 3 and DeLaPerriere fell 4-6, 2-6 at No. 4.

The Mariners are now 10-8 overall and 7-3 in the SSSAC.
