BABSON PARK, Fla. – Coastal Georgia volleyball finished its five-match road swing with a 3-0 loss (25-23, 25-23, 25-13) at Sun Conference leader Webber International on Wednesday evening.
Kyra White led the Mariners with nine kills, while Ashley Kot had 28 assists. Yorelis Rios Gonzalez made 16 digs.
Coastal Georgia hit .168 for the match with 32 kills.
In a close opening set, Coastal Georgia went up 20-19 after a three-point run. Kot served up an ace that provided the Mariners with their go-ahead point. However, Webber International responded with a four-point run of its own in order to take a 23-20 advantage. Coastal Georgia came back to come to within one on two occasions, including at 24-23 on Molly Fletcher's kill, but the Warriors scored the set-point with Emily Bowen's kill.
Coastal Georgia erased a four-point deficit in order to go up 18-16. Laney Green's service ace provided the Mariners with its two-point lead and capped a 7-1 run. Coastal Georgia maintained the lead until Webber International went on a timely three-point spurt that put the Warriors up 22-21. After Azure Werner tied the set at 23-23, Julia Ferraro scored Webber International's final two points with a kill and a service ace.
Momentum of the third set swung towards Webber International's favor. Coastal Georgia had to contend with a Warrior team who hit .414 and went on multiple runs for the final set.
The Mariners are back in action on Saturday when they return to their home court for the first time in three weeks. Coastal Georgia hosts St. Thomas at 2 p.m. in Coffin Gym.
