TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. – Coastal Georgia volleyball scored a 3-1 victory in its final non-conference match of the regular season after defeating Florida College on Friday night. The Mariners won the first second, and then took the third and fourth sets in order to clinch the win.
A trio of Mariners had double-digit kills. Kyra White led the way with 19, while Alexis Downey had 13. Addie Pedraza notched 11 kills. Both Ashley Kot and Yorelis Rios Gonzalez dug 17 balls. Kot alos added 46 assists in order to record her 10th double-double of the season.
Coastal Georgia went on to his .206 for the match, collecting 61 kills and 79 digs.
Coastal Georgia rallied late to win the opening set after facing a four-point deficit. The Mariners went up 20-19 after a Kot kill. A kill from Downey and a Samantha Kepler service ace later put the Coastal Georgia ahead 23-21. Although Florida College came to within one point twice, a kill by Addie Pedraza clinched the first set.
A five-point Florida College run was the differential in the second set. A block from Hodges and Trueheart capped the run and allowed Florida College to go up 18-14. Coastal Georgia came to within two several times late in the set, but Florida College ultimately went on a 3-1 run to finish the set and tied the match at 1-1.
Several late runs allowed the Mariners to persevere in the third set and take a 2-1 lead in the match. Facing set point, kills from Kepler and Downey evened the set at 24-24. Coastal Georgia held a 26-25 lead after an Adair Werley-Alexis Downey block, but Florida College answered with a block of its own to even the set at 26-26. However, a Florida College attack error and a solo block by Kyra White gave the Mariners its final two points for the set win.
Coastal Georgia jumped out to a commanding 16-10 advantage after a Florida College attack error. However, the Mariners saw Florida College attempt to comeback and ultimately take a 23-22 lead on a Mariner attack miscue. Coastal Georgia responded by getting the next three points, ending the set and match on a Kepler kill.
The Mariners are back in action on Saturday at Ave Maria. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
