LAKE WALES, Fla. – College of Coastal Georgia Mariners (16-5, 9-1) extend their win streak to 10 after victory over Sun Conference opponent Warner University (4-12, 2-8).
The Mariners offense out played the Royals 42 kills to their 26. Collectively the Mariners hit .294 percent while the Royals hit .079%.
Senior outside Sam Kepler led the Mariner offense with 10 kills. She maintained a .348 kill percentage. Kepler was followed closely by middle blockers Alison Muldrow and Tamaira Laezza who both totaled 8 kills.
All but one of the Mariners offense hit above 200 in today's match. Muldrow who collected eight kills led the Mariners with a .538 kill percentage. This is her 13th game hitting above 200. Freshman Hannah Williams hit .429 percent, Laezza hit .375 percent and Adair Werley hit .217.
Defensively senior libero Yorelis Rios Gonzalez led the Mariners in digs. She totaled 15 in three sets played. Junior setter Ashley Kot collected 11 herself. She also led the Mariners with 19 assists.
Coastal Georgia 3, Warner 0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23)
Coastal Georgia, No. 1 in the Sun Conference easily handled the Warner Royals in the first two sets. In set one, at the score of 18-17 the Mariners scored seven points to the Royals one. The Mariners capitalized on Royal errors and executed kills from Muldrow and Williams as well as an ace from Kot to end the set.
In the second set, the Mariners started off hot with a lead and did not let up. Coastal Georgia extended their lead to six points twice during the set. The Mariners beat the Royals 25-19.
In the third set, the Mariners quickly found themselves down 4-13. They failed to generate the momentum for a comeback and fell to a ten-point deficit. But, the determined Mariners flipped a switch. They scored six points unanswered to close the gap 15-18. Then after giving up a point, the Mariners strung together five more to tie the set 20-20. Continuing to battle, the Mariners collected three kills and the Royals gave up two errors, leading to the Mariners 25-23 victory.
This victory was the Mariners 10th win in a row and ninth conference win this season. The Mariners continue to lead the Sun Conference and will face No. 2 Keiser this Saturday, October 19th at home. The first serve is slated for 2:00p.m.
