BRUNSWICK, Ga.- Coastal Georgia (18-8, 11-4) swept the Webber International Warriors (7-18, 3-12) 25-18, 25-12, 25-16.
Coastal Georgia came to play today and kept their offensive efficiency a main priority in today's match. Five of the Mariners hitters maintained an above .250 kill percentage. Sophomore Adair Werley led the Mariners with nine kills from the right side. She maintained a .286 kill percentage.
Senior outside Addie Pedraza followed closely with seven kills. Junior Alison Muldrow, sophomore Tamaira Laezza and freshman Hannah Williams all collected three kills apiece.
Junior setter Ashley Kot led the Mariners in digs and assists. She collected 16 of each. Libero Yorelis Rios Gonzalez added 14 digs and setter Gardieliz Laureano-Andujar totaled nine.
Laureano-Andujar led the Mariners with three service aces. The Mariners were hot from the back line, in addition to Laureno-Andjuar four other mariners collected two aces: Muldrow, Rios Gonzlez and senior defensive specialists Madie Bunge and Jane Townsend.
Laezza had a strong defensive day on the net. She collected two block assists and two powerful block solos.
Coastal Georgia 3, Webber International 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-16)
Set One:
The Mariners and the Warriors matched up point for point until the score 13-13. Coastal Georgia then went on a five point run, capitalizing on two Webber errors and adding an ace and kills of their own. The five-point lead proved too much for the Warriors to overcome and the Mariners, continued to execute extended their lead to seven point at its highest. The Mariners bested the Warriors 25-18 in set one.
Set Two:
The Mariners showed no intentions of letting Webber comeback in game two. Starting early, the Mariners collected a six-point lead, 10-4. The Mariners strung together a nice pattern, Kill by Williams – Ace by Laureno-Andjuar - kill by Williams, -Ace by Laureano-Andujar.
Once the lead was established, the Mariners kept pushing. They led the Warriors by nine points at its highest.
The last three points of set two were kills by the Mariners effective front row. Werley put down point 23 and Pedraza scored 24 and 25. The Mariners won 25-12.
Set Three:
The Warriors, still determined continue to battle with the Mariners. Like set one, they duked it out until 13-13 when the Mariners against went on a five point run. Kot and sophomore Kaci Hollenbacher tallied kills to assist in the five-point lead.
After giving up the 14th point, the Mariners strung together five more in a row to take a 22-14 lead. To aid in this run, Bunge served back to back aces to score points 21 and 22.
The Mariners proved victorious, 35-16 over the Warriors.
The Mariners will play their last regular season match this Saturday, November 9th at Johnson & Wales. After Saturday's matches, not only with the Sun Conference regular season champions will be crowed but the seeding for the tournament will be released.
