BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia women's tennis team (3-1, 0-1) will host Brenau University (5-3) on Sunday, Mar. 12 at 12 p.m. at the Marta B. Torrey Tennis Complex.
The Mariners and Golden Tigers have a lot of history dating back to Coastal Georgia's days in the SSAC. Brenau is 9-2 all-time against the Mariners with their last match up coming in February of 2019.
Zack Rogers team will be looking for its first win against the Golden Tigers since 2017.
Returners
Ana Gonzalez and
Azul Malatini have had strong starts to their 2023 campaign. Gonzalez dropped her match of the season against No. 3 SCAD-Savannah but since then has yet to lose. Malatini is the only undefeated Mariner in the lineup. She sits at 4-0 on the year, all of which come at the No. 6 line.
Freshmen
Danielle Silvan and
Paula Cigarran, like Gonzalez, haven't lost since dropping their first match of the season. The freshmen sit in the middle of the lineup and have done a good job of securing points for their team.
Newcomers
Lisa McKenzie and
Chloe Do Lago have also been solid since the teams first match. The two are 3-1 in doubles together this season and will look to build upon the success on Sunday.
Like the Mariners, Brenau is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll. A win for either team could be what vaults them into the ratings.
The Mariners are coming off a 6-1 over Morningside who is receiving votes while Brenau fell 6-1 in their last match against Emmanuel.
