(RV) Mariners Fall in Hard-Fought Sun Conference Match

Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The (RV) Coastal Georgia women's tennis team (5-2, 0-2) dropped a hard-fought match to No. 12 Ave Maria (4-5, 1-0) on Friday afternoon by a score of 5-2 at the Marta B. Torrey Tennis Complex.

Ana Gonzalez and Chloe Do Lago were able to secure wins at courts No. 1 and No. 6.

Coastal Georgia had two other singles matches went into a third set but they were unable to close them out.

The Gyrenes opened up the day strong, winning at all three doubles courts to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Paula Cigarran dropped the first set on court two before storming back to take a 6-0 win in the second set. Cigarran fought hard in the third set but fell 7-10.

Azul Malatini won her first set on court five before dropping the next one. In the third set tiebreaker Malatini fought hard but could not come out on top.

Gonzalez dominated at line No. 1 winning 6-3 and 6-0. Do Lago also won convincingly by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.

Head Coach Zack Rogers was proud of the way his team fought today as they were just two three-set victories away from taking the upset.

"Tough one for our girls today against the No. 12 team in the country," Rogers said. "We were competitive on just about every court. Didn't start the way we would have liked in doubles, but really dug in and competed in singles play. Were just three points away from taking the point at line No. 2 and I think we continue to show that we are a team that deserves a spot in the national rankings."

UP NEXT: The Mariners will head to West Palm Beach, Fla. to take on No. 1 Keiser University on Friday, Mar. 31.
