Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga. – In their final non-conference match before conference play, the Coastal Georgia men's tennis team built some strong momentum, defeating the Georgetown Tigers by a final of 6-1.
"The guys rebounded from an off day in our last match to come away with a convincing win today against Georgetown," said head coach
Zack Rogers. "We played everything out today, but we locked up the 4 deciding lines in short order. We had solid wins up and down the lineup, with everyone getting dialed and focused for the Sun Conference schedule to be back in full swing."
The day started as good as you can ask for as the (10) Mariners (4-2) locked up the doubles point after the first two matches of the day. At No. 2 doubles,
Adrien Guye and
Kevin Leuenberger won their matchup 6-4, while
Gonzalo Tano and
Felix Arroyo Viglino won at No. 3 doubles by the same final of 6-4. At the first line,
Lucas Landaluce and
Aymeric Bruno couln't hang on to their lead as they fell in doubles play 6-4.
The Mariners continued to stay hot moving into singles play, as Bruno was the first to finish at No. 3 singles, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Leuenberger at No. 4 singles and
Santiago Speranza at No. 6 singles weren't far behind, with Leuenberger winning 6-1, 7-5, while Speranza won 6-4, 6-2. Vigilino remained hot at No. 5 singles, winning 6-3, 7-5, and Guye continues to impress at No. 2 singles, winning without a problem, posting finals of 6-2, 6-4. Landaluce was the lone Mariner to fall in Tuesday's contest, and after winning the first set 7-6 (4), couldn't hang on for the sweep as he fell 6-3, and 10-8 to finish the day off.
The Mariners will be off until they step into conference play when they travel to Ave Maria on March 22.
