Mariners Secure 82-73 Victory Over Brewton-Parker

BRUNSWICK, GA – The Coastal Georgia Mariners improved to 7-2 overall with an 82-73 win over Brewton-Parker on Saturday afternoon at home.

After a tight first quarter that saw Coastal Georgia take just an 18-16 lead, the Mariners exploded in the second period, outscoring the Barons 26-17 to build a commanding 44-33 halftime advantage. The momentum swing proved decisive as Coastal Georgia maintained control throughout the second half.

Brewton-Parker made a late push in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mariners 27-24 behind Jasmine Leynard's 13-point explosion in the final period. The Barons cut the deficit to as few as two points, but Coastal Georgia's composure at the free-throw line down the stretch secured the victory.

Abby Shepard led the charge in the second quarter, connecting on three three-pointers as part of an 11-point frame. Her hot shooting helped the Mariners shoot an impressive 55 percent from the field in the period, including 50 percent from beyond the arc. The performance saw them build their largest lead of 17 points late in the first half.

Shepard paced all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including five three-pointers. Her efficient performance set the tone for a Mariners offense that received contributions throughout the lineup.

Paris Miller added 12 points along with six rebounds and three assists, providing steady play in the paint. Niya Moon came off the bench to contribute 11 points, while Alli Stone added eight points and a team-high seven assists, orchestrating the Coastal Georgia offense. The Mariners' bench proved to be a significant advantage, outscoring Brewton-Parker's reserves 36-24. The depth allowed Coastal Georgia to maintain fresh legs and defensive intensity throughout the contest.

Coastal Georgia's defense forced 35 turnovers from Brewton-Parker, converting those mistakes into 31 points. The Mariners' pressure defense disrupted the Barons' offensive flow, particularly in the second quarter when they forced 12 turnovers.

Taylor Blackshear was active off the bench with six rebounds and four assists, while also contributing seven points. Kyla Raven added seven points, and the team showed excellent ball movement with 21 assists on 29 field goals.

The Mariners converted 14-of-27 free throws (51.9 percent) for the game, with crucial makes in the closing minutes preserving the win. This victory continues the momentum for the Mariners as they look to close out 2025!
