Mariners Cruise Past Abraham Baldwin With A Record-Setting Night

TIFTON, GA – Coastal Georgia's women's basketball team put on an offensive showcase Sunday afternoon, overwhelming Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 144-95 in a dominant road performance. The Mariners improved to 6-2 on the season with a balanced attack that saw 13 players score.

Coastal Georgia controlled the game from the opening tip, building a 35-20 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. The Mariners extended their advantage to 72-43 at halftime before maintaining their commanding lead throughout the second half, reaching their largest margin of 51 points late in the fourth quarter.

Abby Shepard led the offensive explosion with a game-high 31 points on an efficient 12-of-15 shooting performance, including 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. Shepard added six steals to her impressive stat line, showcasing her two-way impact on the game.

Niya Moon provided a spark off the bench with 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting, hitting four three-pointers in her 15 minutes of action. Taylor Blackshear was equally effective as a reserve, contributing 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists while shooting a perfect 8-for-12 from the field.

Paris Miller added 16 points, six free throws made, and three steals, while Amanda Roach chipped in 14 points and seven made free throws. The Mariners received contributions up and down the roster, with Maylei Noreika (9 points), Kyla Raven (8 points, 7 rebounds), and Alli Stone (6 points, 6 rebounds) all making solid contributions.

The historic performance included five new school records: points in a game (144), made three-pointers in a game (16), made field goals in a game (55), steals in a game (26), and shot attempts in a game (105).

Coastal Georgia's offensive efficiency was remarkable throughout the contest. The team shot 52.4% from the field (55-105), 40.0% from three-point range (16-40), and 64.3% from the free-throw line (18-28). The Mariners dominated the paint with 66 points and capitalized on Abraham Baldwin's 42 turnovers, scoring 57 points off those miscues.

The Mariners' defense was equally impressive, forcing 42 turnovers while committing just 10 of their own. Coastal Georgia also dominated the boards, out-rebounding ABAC 41-32, including a 23-7 advantage on the offensive glass that led to 13 second-chance points.

The bench played a crucial role in the victory, accounting for 63 of the team's 144 points. The depth and versatility of the Mariners' roster was on full display as the Mariners utilized frequent substitutions to keep fresh legs on the floor throughout the game.

With the victory, Coastal Georgia improves to 6-2 on the season and will look to carry this momentum forward. The team's ability to share the basketball (18 assists) and create scoring opportunities through aggressive defense sets a strong foundation as they continue their campaign.
